If you don't master this skill, you won't be a salesperson in 3 years. Period.
I lived through the golden age at the end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s.
The real gold rush in the IT industry.
When "cold calling" still meant that you walked through business parks in a suit and walked in somewhere without an appointment.
Today? All it takes is a LinkedIn profile, a half-baked pitch and a bit of ChatGPT text, and suddenly they call themselves a "sales expert".
But do you know what all these would-be salespeople CANNOT do?
LISTEN.
Not small talk. Not "analyze needs". I mean real, deep, empathetic listening.
This is the skill that determines your survival in sales.
Because the products are becoming more and more similar. So are the prices. Even the tools and salesPlatformhardly differ any more.
The only difference?
How well you really understand your customer.
Not superficial. Not memorized objections. But genuine, sincere listening.
➡️ Listen to hear between the lines.
➡️ Listening to recognize emotional triggers.
➡️ Listening to build trust before the customer even knows they want to buy.
Sounds banal?
It is not.
Because almost nobody can.
We live in a world in which everyone wants to send but no one wants to receive.
Where everyone pitches but no one understands anymore.
And that is precisely why "listening" becomes a superpower.
In the AI era, it's the only skill you can't outsource.
Data? Does the AI.
Write offers? The AI does it.
Coordinate follow-up appointments? The AI does it.
But real listening? That remains a human matter.
And that is precisely why the winners of tomorrow will not be the best technicians or top performers.
But the best listeners.
Because only those who listen can lead.
Only those who understand can sell.
